Kallberg named Sisters Rodeo Parade grand marshal
The Sisters Rodeo Parade has named Curt Kallberg the grand marshal of the 2017 Sisters Rodeo Parade. A dynamo of energy, the former wild horse racer, current auto racer and consummate contractor is a man who thrives on action and speed, always ready to do what it takes to get something done in the community.
Kallbrerg was raised in Gresham. He and his father frequented the sports car race tracks in Portland, which help create his life’s passion.
The lover of speed built his first car, a 1968 Camaro in 1971. As soon as he turned 18, he got his racing license and has been on race tracks all over the nation since.
In the summer of 2016, he was invited to race at the Indianapolis Speedway, every car guy’s dream where he raced against Al Unser Jr., and Bill Elliot in the Indianapolis Historic Race.
The world of horse racing opened up when he and friends formed a team a began competing in rodeos all over the Northwest. His team competed at the Pendleton Round-Up four times, and won the Crooked River Round-Up, Sweet Home, and the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo.
Kallberg became a member of the Sisters Rodeo Board of Directors in 1995. He served as vice president until he retired from that position in 2014.
Kallberg shares a home on a farm in Madras with Patty Cordoni, current board member of the Sisters Rodeo. If he’s not working on the farm or on the rodeo grounds on his weekends, Kallberg is behind the wheel of a race car on a fast track of a life lived fully charged, pedal to the metal.
