La Pine teen serves as Washington Senate page

Trentyn Tennant, a 10th grader at La Pine High School, recently spent a week at the Washington Capitol working as a page for the Washington State Senate. Trentyn was one of 30 students who served as Senate pages for the 14th week of the 2017 legislative session.

He was sponsored by 10th Legislative District Sen. Barbara Bailey.

“Trentyn has a real passion and interest for the work we do in the legislature,” said Bailey. “I really enjoyed seeing him express that through the page program.”

The Senate Page Program is an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.

“I’m really interested in political sciences and the legislature,” said Trentyn. “Paging has been everything I expected and more.”

Trentyn enjoys wrestling, soccer and extracurricular business activities.

Trentyn, age 15, is the son of Taryn and Destin Tennant of La Pine, Oregon. His parents said he sought the opportunity in Washington, as Oregon has no similar page program.
