Fire heavily damages shop in La Pine

A La Pine shop sustained heavy damage in a fire Wednesday afternoon that crews kept from reaching a nearby home, officials said.
Nearly a dozen La Pine Rural Fire Protection District personnel were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. to the reported shop fire in the 15000 block of Bristlecone Lane, said fire Captain Fred Franklin.
Dispatchers passed along word from Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies that there was a detached home nearby, but all occupants had evacuated, Franklin said.
Crews arrived to find dark smoke coming from the door seams and eaves of a 24-by-30-foot workshop with metal siding, doors and roof, the fire captain said.
Firefighters deployed a hose line, cooled the fire from the exterior, then entered the shop to extinguish the blaze and conduct overhaul.
Franklin said the shop’s interior sustained heavy damage, but no people or animals were injured. The building is insured, he added.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Franklin also credited the property owner for leaving all doors and opening to the shop closed, which limited the fire spread and intensity.
