Redmond couple killed in Hwy. 22 head-on crash
A Redmond couple were killed Saturday evening when their SUV crossed the center line and struck another SUV head-on on state Highway 22 west of Detroit, Oregon State Police reported.
OSP troopers and medics responded at 5:24 p.m. to the two-vehicle crash near milepost 41 in Marion County, said OSP Lt. Mark Duncan.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2007 Toyota Rav 4 driven by William Harold Bodden, 84, of Redmond, was heading west when, for unknown reasons, his SUV crossed the center line, Duncan said.
It struck an eastbound 2008 Jeep Patriot driven by Joyce Mast, 51, of Hillsboro, head-on, the lieutenant said.
Bodden’s passenger, Diane Theresa Bodden, 77, also of Redmond, was pronounced dead at the scene, Duncan said. William Bodden was being flown by air ambulance to an area hospital, but died while en route, he added.
Mast, who was alone in the Jeep, was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital with serious injuries, the trooper added.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Detroit Fire and Rescue and Marion County Medical Examiner.
Highway 22 was blocked for several hours for purposes of the investigation, Duncan said. He added that more information in the ongoing investigation will be released as it becomes available.
