Gene Dales named new Redmond HS football coach
Former Redmond High School assistant football coach Gene Dales has been named head coach of the RHS Panthers varsity football team, Principal Paul Nolan recently announced.
“Gene has been with our Panther program for some time now, knows our students well and has their trust and respect,” Nolan said. “He is the perfect candidate to keep our football team competitive and take them to the next level.”
Dales previously served as RHS’s dean of students while simultaneously serving as defensive coordinator under Head Coach Nathan Stanley. The Panthers advanced to two state quarterfinal playoffs during this time.
He retired as dean of students in 2016, but remained at RHS as a half-time physical education teacher.
“I’m excited to return and take the helm of Panther football,” Dales said. “This is a program capable of matching the success of previous years, however, we will be a young team and we will need to build upon our collective growth as the season continues. I’m thrilled to continue working with RHS kids and help make them better people on and off the field.”
Dales brings nearly 40 years of high school football coaching experience, having coached at schools in Arizona, Washington and Oregon.
As part of his head coaching role, Dales is hosting the High Desert Football League Team Camp from Sunday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29 , at Redmond High.
“Our football camp is an excellent opportunity to improve on football fundamentals, learn deeper technique and build friendships and connections with future teammates,” Dales explained.
Dales is also hosting a youth football camp for elementary and junior high players from Aug. 7-10. Registration is available at redmondhighschoolfootballcamps.myonlinecamp.com .
