(Update: Patient found, back in custody)

The Eugene Police Department on Friday took into custody a psychiatric patient who was reported missing Thursday by the Oregon State Hospital after attending a treatment session in Eugene, the Oregon Health Authority said Friday.

Peace Dawn Wickham was located around 9 a.m. Friday and was taken to the Lane County Jail to await transport back to the hospital’s Junction City campus, officials said.

“The Oregon Health Authority appreciates the coordinated efforts between the Eugene Police Department, Lane County Jail and Oregon State Police,” the announcement said.

“Everything at OSH is designed for safety, both for the public and for the patients. As in all incidents, the hospital will review all the circumstances leading up to the event to determine what went wrong and prevent it from happening again,” the agency said..

OSP said Wickham was reported missing Thursday afternoon when hospital staff members assigned to escort Wickham lost sight of him when he ran from the group.

Police said Wickham was not considered to be a danger to himself or others, but that people shouldn’t approach him.

Wickham was admitted to Oregon State Hospital in November 2016. He was found guilty except for insanity on assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and felon in possession of a restricted weapon charges.
