Teaters Road open for interim access to N. Fork Crooked River

Teaters Road, which runs from Highway 380 north to the BLM’s North Fork Crooked River area and the Ochoco National Forest, is temporarily open while Waibel Ranches, LLC completes construction on a new public access road nearby, officials said Friday.

Teaters Road had remained closed during the weekdays this fall to provide for public safety while large construction vehicles were operating in the area, officials said.

BLM said it has been working in partnership with Waibel Ranches, LLC. and Crook County to provide public access for recreation, hunting and fishing, while respecting traditional ranching uses, according to the agency.

Once construction is finished and the new public road is open for use, Waibel Ranches, LLC. will again close Teaters Road, while continuing to offer the Forest Service, BLM, and other emergency service or utility agencies administrative access.

Waibel Ranches, LLC. plans to donate the new road to Crook County upon completion.

While the public can now drive again on Teaters Road, they are asked to remember that they are driving through several miles of private property before reaching BLM or Forest Service-administered lands.

Like all private lands, this area is not open to camping, hunting, shed hunting, or any other public activity except driving on the road, unless permission is granted in advance by the landowners.
