John Day man accused of attempted murder in camper shooting

A John Day man was arrested Friday on attempted murder and other charges, accused of shooting a Eugene man who was camping east of Prairie City earlier this week, Oregon State Police reported.
Kevin Rapp, 32, was arrested Friday afternoon in the shooting of Kyler Weisenback, 27, of Eugene, said OSP Sgt. Michael Berland. He was booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two outstanding warrants.
Early Monday morning, Weisenback was awakened while camping and shot twice with a small-caliber firearm, Berland said. He had been camping at the Dixie Creek Campground near the Dixie Summit, east of Prairie City.
Weisenback first was flown to St. Charles Bend and later was transfered to a Portland-area hospital for treatment, the trooper said.
No further information was released, due to the active investigation.
