(Update: Searchers find missing hunter)

A hunter who was reported missing near Mt. Hood after leaving his group and failing to return has been found safe, authorities said Wednesday.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office had searchers are looking for Nicholas Benim near Hideaway Lake in the Mount Hood National Forest.

The hunter left his group Sunday afternoon and was due back a few hours later.

Deputies said Wednesday afternoon that Forest Service personnel had found Benim west of the search area.

They said he was reported to be in “okay” condition and was being brought to his family and friends.

Sgt. Marcus Mendoza had said the 34-year-old Molalla man was wearing a bright orange jacket and tan pants. He also had a backpack.
