Six hurt in head-on Hwy. 97 crash north of Madras
(Update: Highway 97 reopened)
Two vehicles collided head-on on Highway 97 about six miles north of Madras late Tuesday afternoon, injuring six people, two seriously, and closing the highway for more than an hour, Oregon State Police said.
The crash was reported around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 97 and Northeast Cora Drive, OSP Sgt. Kyle Hove reported.
At least two air ambulances, from Air Link and LifeFlight, were called to the scene to take the most seriously injured to St. Charles Bend, Hove said.
The crash blocked the highway and officials advised using alternate routes if at all possible.
We will have more details as they become available.
