PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Officials have identified a soldier who died in an accidental shooting at a training facility near the Oregon coast.

Authorities say 24-year-old Spc. Devin Kuhn died Wednesday from his injuries in the emergency room at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.

Kuhn was assigned to Alpha Co., 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Camp Rilea, based in Warrenton, is the primary training facility for the Oregon National Guard. It is also used by the Ranger Regiment, Special Forces and other groups, according to a report at SOFREP.com, a site for special operations veterans.

KPTV reports Kuhn, an Army Ranger originally from Philadelphia, had just turned 24 last Sunday. A shot was fired in the housing area of Camp Rilea during training, officials said.

Kuhn, an automatic rifleman, deployed once in support of Operation freedom’s Sentinel, which trained Afghanistan’s national army, police and border police.

He is survived by his wife and parents, the station reported.
