Redmond sees 3rd DUII driver hit buildings in a week
For the third time in a week, an allegedly drunk driver has crashed into a Redmond building.
According to the Redmond Police Department, the most recent incident happened around 11:40 a.m. Sunday at the Canyon Crest Apartments complex on Southwest Rimrock Way.
Lt. Curtis Chambers said 27-year-old Tegan Clark, who lives in the complex, was there dropping off his children.
In a news release Tuesday, police said Clark got into a fight on the property and attempted to leave, but drove forward into the building, instead of reversing. Chambers said an investigation revealed “Clark was more likely than not impaired when he arrived.”
“The suspect in this case drove to the location with minor children in his vehicle, and then attempted to leave without his children. The person was arrested for two counts of DUII for driving to the location and then attempting to leave later,” Chambers said.
Clark’s alleged actions could’ve been worse for others too. There were several residents in the apartment when he hit the building.
“All of a sudden, I heard this really loud bang, and I came downstairs and thought maybe someone had broken in, because the door was shifted forward several inches,” Joseph Canady said. No one was hurt in the crash.
Clark was arrested on two counts of DUII-alcohol, second-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and five counts of recklessly endangering another person. He was taken to the Deschutes County Jail.
The news release added:
“The Redmond Police Department desires to make Redmond the safest community in Oregon. Deterring and arresting DUII drivers is one way we are attempting to make this vision a reality. Driving while impaired endangers a large number of people, including any person which may be in the vehicle with the offending driver. Oregon law allows for a fine of up to $10,000 per minor child in the vehicle when the driver is arrested for DUII. Please do not drive after becoming impaired, and it should go without saying; please do not drive impaired with children in your vehicle.”
