Local Alert Weather – Fri. PM

KTVZ

Happy Friday night, everyone!

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for most of Deschutes County, parts of Jefferson County, and the Cascades. Snow showers will begin for the Cascades after sunset tonight. Central Oregon can expect snow showers around midnight and continuing through the afternoon Saturday. The mountain passes will be snow covered and it will be slow going on the roadways. Allow yourself plenty of extra time and be prepared. Chains or traction tires have been required at times over the past week, so make sure you check before you head out.

Snow totals for the Cascade crest will be around 2-3 feet of snow by the end of the weekend. Mt. Bachelor is looking at a few inches more. Winds will be kicking up Saturday out of the northwest around 50+ miles per hour. Bundle up and be safe this weekend if you’re headed up to the mountains!

Overnight lows into Saturday will be in the 20s, which is much warmer than we were Friday morning and is closer to average.

Saturday begins with some snow on the ground. We’re expecting anywhere from 1-3″ for the High Desert by the afternoon on Saturday. Winds will be breezy in Central Oregon gusting around 40 miles per hour at times. Snow shower activity will calm down by the evening, so we’ll get a break before another round of snow showers returns Sunday. Highs for Saturday will be similar to Friday’s in the mid to upper 30s.

Snow showers will be with us Sunday morning as well. As we get into the afternoon some showers could become rain as temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Plan on slick, slippery conditions on the roadways. Winds will still be breezy gusting 30 miles per hour on Sunday.

The beginning of the week gives us a break from shower activity and we’ll see some sunshine. Highs will be colder than we will be for the weekend. Central Oregon will see temperatures in the low to mid 30s to start the week.

Have a happy & safe weekend!
