Klamath Falls residents support continued recycling

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Residents who attended a town hall meeting in Klamath Falls said they are willing to pay more for curbside recycling.

The future of curbside recycling in Klamath Falls became cloudy after Waste Management told county commissioners it had to raise rates or discontinue recycling. The company attributed the increase to a collapse of the recycling market after new policies in China led to a drop in the value of recyclables.

The Herald and News reports that residents supported paying more even before they learned the increase would be $1.22 per month.

A rate change would require approval from county commissioners and the Klamath Falls City Council.

In addition to recycling, some residents talked about reducing waste by eliminating products such as Styrofoam take-out containers and plastic grocery bags.
