Bend traffic stop leads to chase, fugitive’s arrest

A northwest Bend traffic stop led to the arrest of a wanted Bend man Thursday night after he ran from his car and assaulted two officers, police said.

An officer pulled over a vehicle around 9:20 p.m. around Northwest Revere Avenue and Wall Street after seeing the driver of a 2009 Ford Flex make several traffic violations, including failing to obey a traffic control device, Sgt. Bob Jones said.

After contacting the driver, identified as Ryan Dewald Jones, 36, of Bend, the officer returned to his patrol car and learned Jones had an outstanding arrest warrant.

The officer saw Jones get out of his SUV and start walking away, the sergeant said. The officer told Jones he was under arrest, but he began to run, prompting a brief chase.

Jones was taken into custody in the courtyard of Wall Street Suites. While being taken into custody, Jones allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted two officers, one of whom suffered minor injuries.

Jones was taken to the Deschutes County Jail on several charges, including reckless driving, DUII, interfering with a police officer, second-degree escape, resisting arrest, two counts of assault of a public safety officer and two outstanding Deschutes County warrants.

Court records indicate the warrants were for failing to appear in court on pending charges of fourth-degree assault and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse.
