Clear the Shelters: Street Dog Hero helps dogs near and far find loving homes

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - KTVZ is partnering with NBC for Clear the Shelters, a nationwide campaign that promotes pet adoption and supports animal shelters across the country.

Throughout the month, we're highlighting local shelters and the different ways Central Oregonians can help animals in need.

For dogs in need, a second chance can begin thousands of miles away.

Street Dog Hero, a foster-based rescue in Bend, helps dogs locally and around the world find safety, care and loving homes.

The foster-based rescue supports dogs from overcrowded shelters, including animals brought in from as far away as Mexico, South Korea and China.

Adoption Manager Manny Ramos introduced us to Bailey, who arrived from an overcrowded shelter in Norman, Oklahoma.

“This here is sweet Bailey. She’s from Norman, Oklahoma. We work with a shelter down there,” Ramos said. “She was the 50,000th dog flown by our rescue partner, Dog Is My CoPilot, from an overcrowded shelter to an adoption center like us.”

This month, the organization is offering $50 off puppy adoptions and $100 off adult dog adoptions.

The organization says foster homes are the backbone of its rescue efforts. Those interested in providing a temporary home for a dog in need can apply to foster through this link.
