Deschutes National Forest, Discover Your Forest seek conservation education volunteers

Discover Your Forest

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Deschutes National Forest and Discover Your Forest are seeking volunteers to help facilitate youth conservation education programs.

Discover Your Forest provides free field trips to Central Oregon youth across Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Conservation education volunteers play a critical role in providing a memorable and educational experience for visiting students. Volunteers guide students on the Trail of Molten Land while connecting students to Oregon’s volcanic past!

No experience is required. Discover Your Forest provides extensive training consisting of: Oregon’s geologic past, wildlife of Newberry National Volcanic Monument, JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion), student management and more.

Volunteering with conservation education is a great opportunity for prospective education or environmental studies students to gain experience. Volunteers who complete forty hours earn a Northwest Forest Pass for the following summer season.

Spring training dates are April 24 – 26, and April 29. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday, Thursday and Friday, May through June and September 9:00-1:00 p.m.

Interviews and background checks are required prior to volunteering.
