Portland Cello Project performs at concert series
All this summer, St. Charles has teamed up with the Old Mill District to offer free concerts at Bend’s Les Schwab Amphitheater. Sunday’s musical guest was the Portland Cello Project.
The group describes itself has a loose-knit collection of cellists who like to play in places you wouldn’t normally see them, and play music you normally wouldn’t hear played by cellos.
“They will hear everything from Kanye to Pantera to Bach and Beethoven and jazz stuff from Duke Ellington,” said Douglass Jenkins, artistic director for the Portland Cello Project. “Everything you can imagine, and pretty much in whatever order confuses you most.”
This isn’t the first time the Portland Cello Project has come to Central Oregon.
The group has performed a couple of other times, and they say they are always so honored to come here, and they feel welcomed into the community.
The St. Charles Free Summer Sundays Concerts aren’t over just yet.
They are taking a hiatus for the Bend Summer Festival next weekend, but will be back on July 22nd featuring the Farewell Drifters. On July 29th, Paul Thorn and on August 12th, The Features. All are from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Les Schwab Amphitheater, with food vendors on tap as well.
