Off-road races held in Central Oregon
Did you know Central Oregon has its own off-road race track? If you didn’t, organizers of the Off-Road Race Track want you to come out to one of their events.
If you didn’t, organizers of the Off-Road Race Track want you to come to one of their events.
Race trucks, off-road buggies, ATV’s and mini trophy karts, along with other vehicles took part Saturday in one of a three part race series.
The action-packed, fender-to-fender racing was up more than 20 cars from last year’s inaugural series.
The short course was 6/10ths of a mile long and included jumps and bank turns.
There were six-lap heat races and a 12-lap main event.
“Well, I’ve done it since I was 9 years old — that’s 42 years — so it’s kind of like an addictive drug,” said promoter Randy Shoaff. “It’s a sport. It’s exciting. It’s expensive. You spend a lot of money. The trucks are worth a lot of money, and the cars too, but it keeps you out of the bars.”
Race winners get a trophy, and there’s bonus money for those finishing in the top three slots.
The next race is scheduled for Sept. 15th.
That will be their double points championship race, with more cars and more trophy money.
