Leaving RDM: Allegiant Air’s last departure

KTVZ

Allegiant Air took off from Roberts Field for its last time Sunday, and with one less choice for air travel into or out of Roberts Field, it’s more of an inconvenience for travelers than anything else.

The airline announced it would end its service to Redmond just weeks after the airline added a new flight from RDM to Oakland.

Allegiant joined the small group of airlines which fly in and out of the airport just five years ago, but officials told us after the announcement that the flight did not produce the profit they had hoped.

“We flew up here in May to see my brother, and sister-in-law and then this time for their wedding,” said Sari Will who has been using Allegiant as a cheap and convenient way to visit family from California. “I was hoping to use it on a much more frequent basis, but now I’m not going to — which is a huge bummer.”

Last month, the airport reported its highest boardings in five years, as nearly 25,000 people got on flights at Roberts Field. The airport does expect those numbers to drop now that Allegiant is gone.

But there may be good news to come for frequent fliers. Redmond Airport manager Kim Dickie said last week the airport may be adding some new carriers in the future, and some airlines could add additional flights.
