Broken Top gathers food for relief nursery
MountainStar Family Relief Nursery is extremely pleased to announce that the Broken Top Community Association collected 3,523 pounds of food (over 1.7 tons) from residents of the Broken Top community this week and donated it to MountainStar for distribution to approximately 100 families.
Families served by MountainStar qualify as low-income, with many living on less than $1,000 a month.
Their fifth annual food drive was held on Monday November 12and was spearheaded by Marie Matthews and several Broken Top residents.
“If feels great to get together in our neighborhood and do something to help families with young children in Deschutes County who are facing hard times,” says Marie Matthews.
Food boxes provide a family with food for a week, including fresh fruit and vegetables, quality meat, treats for the children and lots of great food for their pantry (cans, packaged meals, soups, pasta, etc.).
Broken Top residents collected 10 full thanksgiving dinners complete with fresh whole turkeys and hams, potatoes, vegetables and desert.
“We deeply appreciate the gracious donation from the Broken Top Community Association for the food donated. The families who received the food boxes are touched by the goodwill of others who care enough to help put food on the table over the holiday season,” said Tim Rusk, Executive Director.
