Construction safety event coming to Bend

Workers and employers in Oregon’s construction industry are invited to attend a full-day conference on Tuesday, Jan. 29, designed to highlight safe work practices and provide code-related updates.

Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), part of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, is one of several partners presenting the Mid-Oregon Construction Safety Summit at the Riverhouse Hotel & Convention Center.

“Construction involves some of the most significant hazards of any industry,” said Oregon OSHA Administrator Michael Wood. “This event offers specialized training on topics that can reduce accidents and encourage safe work practices.”

The conference, designed for residential and commercial construction workers, is themed “Safety Takes Every Person. Get in Step.” Continuing education credits are pre-approved for the Construction Contractors Board, Building Codes Division (plumbers and electricians), and Landscape Contractors Board. Conference attendees can also choose from 14 different classes, such as fall protection and multi-employer worksite safety. Other conference topics include:

* Electrical safety/NFPA 70E
* Confined space
* Rigging and crane awareness
* Welding and compressed gas safety
* Excavations
