Bend partners for community garden
The City of Bend has partnered with the non-profit organization Celebrate Bend to win one of 10 grants from the Fiskars Corporation for construction of a community garden.
The Franklin’s Corner Garden project will receive $3500 for materials and a $1500 Fiskars tool kit. The garden will be built on city-owned property located on the southeast corner of 8 th Street and Franklin Avenue.
Plans for the project include creating a demonstration stormwater rain garden, making the entire project ADA accessible, enhancing water conservation, and engaging students in the benefits of gardening.
The project will be built and maintained by volunteers. Local businesses are also donating materials for the garden.
The grant is part of Fiskars Project Orange Thumb. The project has provided over $1.3 million to 140 community groups and helped to complete fourteen garden makeovers in the U.S. and Canada.
