Bend pet food bank receives $5,000 grant

HOPE Pet Food Bank has received a grant award in the amount of $5,000 from the Banfield Charitable Trust to purchase cat and dog food for distribution to local people in need of assistance to provide food for their pets.

Oftentimes, pet owners facing difficult financial decisions will choose to feed their pets over themselves. HOPE is here to ensure that those in need do not have to make that difficult decision, nor do they have to make the decision to surrender their beloved pet to a shelter.

The HOPE Pet Food Bank, a partnership between Bend Spay and Neuter Project and Bend Pet Express, which began in March, is now serving over 150 families in Central Oregon. HOPE, an acronym for Help Our Pets Eat, provides free pet food for up to three pets once a month to qualifying families.

HOPE Pet Food Bank clients are also eligible for discounted spay/neuter services through Bend Spay and Neuter Project. All pets must be spayed or neutered within two months in order for clients to continue to receive assistance from HOPE. HOPE Pet Food Bank operates on donations from local community members and national food vendors. This is the first grant award that HOPE has received.
