Nelson named to Redmond School Board
The Redmond School District Board of Directors has selected Shane Nelson of Redmond to the district’s five member governing board.
Three individuals were interviewed for the board vacancy at Wednesday night’s meeting, held at the district office.
Candidates Shane Nelson, Jenny O’Keefe and Johnny Corbin each interviewed for 45 minutes. All interview questions were identical and weighted scores were assigned to each candidate’s response. The candidate with the highest weighted score was selected.
Nelson will be sworn in prior to the board work session on January 8. He is a captain with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and studied communications at Oregon State University.
Nelson fills the position vacated by Lisa Klemp, who was elected to serve the remaining two-year un-served term of Jim Erickson. He will serve from January 8, 2014 through June 30, 2015.
“We were impressed with the quality, passion and positive energy of all of our candidates for the board position,” shared A.J. Losoya, school board chair. “We are excited for Shane Nelson to join us as a member of the Redmond School District team. His depth of public service and leadership experience will be of tremendous value to the district and the community that we serve.”
The Redmond School District Board of Directors serve overlapping four-year terms as non-salaried trustees of the school district. As elected officials, the board is responsible for the scope, depth and quality of education and is the official policy-making body of the school district.
