CXmas Fund helps send juniors to Cyclocross Nationals

Through its non-profit CXmas Junior Fund, Bowen Sports Performance donated $1,400 to help Oregon junior cyclists attend the U.S. Cyclocross National Championships in Boulder, Colo., later this week.

Fourteen juniors from the state, including 10 from Central Oregon, will be competing in the national championship races with help from Bend Endurance Academy (BEA), which is transporting bicycles and other equipment to Boulder.

To reduce time away from school, most of the juniors are flying to Colorado. BEA Cycling Director Bill Warburton will also provide coaching and race support for the juniors, most of whom will race on Friday, January 10, at Boulder’s Valmont Bike Park. The money donated to Bend Endurance Academy will be used to offset the costs of traveling and participating for all 14 juniors.

“I can’t tell you how much it means to be able to help juniors attend nationals,” says Bart Bowen, who raced as a junior before becoming a professional cyclist. “For many of these kids, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that they’ll never forget. The life lessons of participating in a national event are invaluable.”

Bowen Sports Performance raised money for the CXmas Junior Fund in 2013 by hosting the second annual Future Cross cyclocross race this past September, and with the third annual CXmas Party on December 5. A silent auction and raffle at the party featured items and services donated by many local businesses and individuals.

“We are so appreciative of the continued support, both from the cycling community and the greater community,” says Bowen. “We absolutely couldn’t do it without their help and generosity.”

The third annual Future Cross race will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, and the fourth annual CXmas Party will be held in early December 2014. All proceeds from both events will again benefit the CXmas Junior Fund.

Bowen Sports Performance is located at 225 NE Lafayette Avenue in Bend. For more information please visit www.poweredbybowen.com or call 541.977.1321.
