La Pine church offers free Sunday breakfasts

When the people at Crescent Creek Church in La Pine learned that 71% of La Pine Elementary and 86% of Rosland Elementary kids were on the free or reduced lunch program, they began to investigate the issues of child hunger in La Pine.

Although there are programs available to ensure the kids get meals during the week, there is nothing available on the weekends and according to school staff, they suspect many kids don’t get evening meals or meals on the weekends in their homes.

Once people who attend Crescent Creek learned of the need – they decided to get involved by opening the church to provide a nutritious breakfast to these families on Sunday mornings.

To help people feel comfortable stepping into a church, the meal is served in the morning before church services begin and ends before regular church attenders arrive. They are in the process of developing a comfortable and fun kids’ area with a ball room and video room, just so kids can have fun along with a solid meal.

Breakfasts will be served every Sunday morning this spring from 8:30 – 9:30 at Crescent Creek Church – 52340 Huntington Road in La Pine – just off of Burgess. For more information contact the office at 541-536-2183
