Interpretive ranger training offered
In April, Discover Your Forest, a non-profit land partner with the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River National Grassland, will hold a training session for people interested in becoming Certified Interpretive Rangers for the Forest Service.
The Certified Interpretive Ranger course delivers all the training needed for Forest Service staff and volunteers to lead public tours and talks at locations like Newberry National Volcanic Monument.
The training requires 3 – 8 hour days of classroom/field instruction and is free to all Forest Service Staff and volunteers. The training will occur on three consecutive Tuesdays in April (15, 22, and 29) at Lava Lands Visitor Center, Newberry National Volcanic Monument, approximately 10 miles south of Bend.
Following the training, an oral and written exam will be given in order to be for participants to be officially certified. The oral exam will be a 15-minute public program to other class participants. The written exam is approximately 50 questions in an open book format.
