Bend DUII suspect arrested after police chase

A speeding drunk driver pulled over for Bend police early Saturday but then took off, leading to a nearly 2 mile chase at up to 70 mph before he stopped and surrendered, officers said.

An officer tried to pull over a 1998 Mercedes SUV around 1:30 a.m. Saturday for speeding, erratic driving and suspicion of DUII in the area of NW Wall Street and Colorado Avenue, said Sgt. Dan Ritchie.

The driver, later identified as Scott Robert Wilson, 26, of Redmond, initially stopped, and the officer got out and approached the driver, Ritchie said.

But as the officer got to the SUV, Wilson accelerated and the pursuit ensued through southeast Bend, along Second Street and Wilson Avenue.

At one point, the driver headed east in the westbound lane of Reed Market Road, forcing another driver into the concrete median of Reed Market near Chamberlain Boulevard, Ritchie said, adding that the driver was unhurt.

The pursuit covered about 2.4 miles at speeds of up to 70 mph before Wilson stopped and surrendered on SW Silver Lake Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue, the sergeant said.

Wilson was taken into custody without incident, and there were no injuries or reported property damage during the pursuit, Ritchie said.

Wilson was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail on charges of DUII, reckless driving, felony eluding police and recklessly endangering another. He was released to a responsible third party around 4:40 a.m., about an hour after being booked into the jail, an officer said.
