Bend man jailed in assault with knife

A Bend man was jailed early Friday on assault charges in a knife attack on an acquaintance at a southeast Bend home that left the victim unconscious with facial injuries, police said.
Officers were called around 2:30 a.m. to the reported assault at the home at 545 SE Fourth Street, said Capt. Ken Stenkamp.
They arrived to find Richard Dillion, 55, of Bend, unconscious and unresponsive, bleeding from a slashing knife wound to the face, Stenkamp said. Bend fire medics took Dillion to St. Charles Bend with what Stenkamp said were determined to be non-life-threatening injuries; he apparently was treated and released.
An investigation led to the arrest of Paul Scott Saunders, 52, on charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Deschutes County Jail, where he was held on $25,000 bail.
Saunders was unhurt, Stenkamp said.
