Sisters recreational shooting area to close this fall
A temporary recreational shooting closure for the Zimmerman Cinder Pit on the Sisters Ranger District will begin on September 14 and end on December 1, 2014.
The closure of the pit has been put in place to protect contractors who will be clearing trees in several areas of the pit for future cinder mining by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The pit is approximately 3.5 miles west of Sisters in T.14, R.10, Section 19. The area is accessed by Forest Road 2059-500.
Individuals interested in alternatives for recreational shooting opportunities are encouraged to visit Garrison Pit, Schilling Pit, and McKenzie Pit. Information on these areas is available at the Sisters Ranger District office, at the junction of Pine Street and Highway 20 in Sisters, Oregon or by calling the office directly at 541-549-7700.
