Six months later, Two Bulls Fire’s cause still a mystery
It’s been six months since the Two Bulls Fire, and still its start is a mystery.
It was one of the earliest fire season starts in Bend’s history. The fire ignited on June 7.
“I think the earliness of the fire of that severity took everyone by surprise,” Rich Hoover with the Oregon State Police said Friday.
It was fully contained one week later, having burned almost 7,000 acres and cost $6.2 million.
To this day, there is no one found responsible.
“It’s possible we could never know,” Hoover said.
The tips have run dry. Hoover said the arson investigators have explored them all “within reasonable logic.” There’s barely anything about the fire’s cause they know for sure.
“The only thing they’ve been able to come down to is it’s of an undetermined nature,” Hoover said.
The nature of fire makes the cause hard to find. However, because the investigation is still ongoing, it’s not impossible. Every tip helps.
“You know, people know something and they think it’s insignificant,” Hoover said.
The flames are out but for many, the emotion behind the fire burns on. It’s not too late to solve the mystery.
