Bend police Sgt. John Lawrence passes away

Bend police Sgt. John Lawrence, who spent more than 14 years in Central Oregon law enforcement, passed away of natural causes, officers said Friday. He was 43.

Lt. Kurt Koester issued this announcement of what took place:

On, Thursday, December 4 th , at 9:46 pm, Bend Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the residence of Sgt. John Lawrence, of the Bend Police Department, regarding a medical emergency.

Lifesaving efforts were administered to Sgt. John Lawrence, by both police and fire personnel. Sgt. Lawrence was transported to the Saint Charles Medical Center Emergency Room, where he received additional life-saving efforts. Those efforts were unsuccessful, and his death was determined to be of natural causes.

John Lawrence began his career in law enforcement with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked for 4 years. He then worked for the Bend Police Department for 10 years, and promoted to Sgt. in January 2014.

John is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and his children, Alyssa and Ryker.
