Bend woman struck by SUV identified, still critical
A 49-year-old Bend woman remained in critical condition Monday at St. Charles Bend, nearly two days after she was struck by an SUV while crossing Northeast Revere Avenue, police said.
Lt. Nick Parker said Pamela Kay James was the woman struck in the collision occurred just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Revere Avenue west of Third Street near Lytle Street, said.
He identified the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder as Michael Anthony Jones, 45, of Bend, who stopped at the scene and cooperated in the investigation.
Police Lt. Kurt Koester said the crash happened just east of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks, which also were closed for a brief period.
Koester said James was wearing dark clothing and, was trying to cross Revere in an unlit area away from any crosswalk when she was struck by Jones’ eastbound SUV in the inside (“fast”) lane of the road.
Koester said the collision occurred just after dark, but it was not foggy at the time, though fog later settled in as police conducted several hours of investigation at the scene, keeping Revere Avenue closed at the location until late that night.
Anyone who witnessed the crash and was not already interviewed by police was asked to contact the department through Deschutes County dispatch at 541-693-6911.
