Injured hiker rescued near Brasada Ranch

KTVZ

Crook County rescuers and Redmond medics came to the aid of a woman who suffered a leg injury Thursday while hiking with her husband east of Brasada Ranch, an official said.

Sheriff’s deputies got a report around 11:15 a.m. of an injured hiker on the trail from the resort to Spirit Rock, said county Emergency Manager Michael Ryan.

The woman’s husband called to say she’d sustained a leg injury and was unable to walk out.

Crook County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was activated, along with Crook County and Redmond fire medics, Ryan said.

After locating the woman, whose name was not released, she was brought to a staging area on the ranch without incident.

Redmond medics provided initial treatment of the patient, and Crook County SAR and fire medics provided transport by UTV (utility task vehicle), Ryan said. Family members then took her to the hospital for treatment.

Ryan said the 2 -hour rescue operation comes as a timely reminder as the weather warms that travel in the outdoors at any time of year has its risks.

“Always plan ahead, tell someone the route you are planning on taking and stick to that route,” he said in a news release. “Always remember to bring a cellphone, food, water, clothing and blankets, in case you have to spend the night.”
