Reminder: Outdoor burning season closes Friday
Due to low snowpack, lack of rainfall and early season warming, all debris, commercial and agricultural burning in areas protected by Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2 will be banned effective for the duration of fire season.
This burning ban was approved by all fire chiefs from Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties, along with state and federal land managers.
Outdoor debris burning in the city limits of Bend is closed year-round by city ordinance.
Backyard fires which include warming fires, campfires and cooking fires are allowed in the Bend area, when used within the guidelines set forth in the Bend Fire Department Burning Regulations. These are available online at www.bendoregon.gov/burninginfo
Residents who would like an alternative to debris burning should not forget Fire Free week which is May 1 through 9. Residents can take their yard debris to be recycled free of charge. Knott Landfill will be accepting yard debris May 1-9 except Sunday May 3. The old Westside Transfer Station (19755 SW Simpson) will be open May 1and 2 and May 8 and 9. Illegal burning can create a response from emergency crews that could delay their response to other emergencies such as medical calls. By complying with burn regulations citizens can help reduce the need for unnecessary fire department response. Please be aware that burning outside of regulations can result in a fine of up to $500.00. Please help keep Central Oregon green.
