Bend seeks volunteers to count cyclists, walkers

KTVZ

The city of Bend and its partner agencies are seeking volunteers to help collect information about how people get around.

Following a consistent, nationally recognized methodology, this data collection effort will improve the quality, consistency and frequency of our data. The information we collect will document current levels of walking and biking, help us measure our progress towards increasing the number of people who walk and bike, and help us determine where limited transportation resources are needed most.

We would like to recruit approximately 25 people to assist with the counts scheduled for September 2015. This program is an effort to count the same locations four times per year. More opportunities to volunteer will be available in January. Pick your favorite spot to count by signing up online at www.bendoregon.gov/bikepedcount.

Each volunteer will be asked to:

Adopt a count location for September 2015.

View the training materials on line.

Conduct counts for a two-hour period on a weekday or Saturday (or both).

Counts will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on September 15 and 16.
