A Bend man was arrested by Washington County sheriff’s deputies, accused of pulling a knife and assaulting another Bend man late Saturday night during a fight in Cornelius, west of Portland.

Sheriff’s deputies serving Cornelius responded around 11:40 p.m. to the reported fight on South Beech Street, said Sgt. Vance Stimler, the agency’s public information officer.

Witnesses said there was a domestic dispute occurring in the street, and when a friend tried to intervene, Armando Puac-Damaso, 35, pulled knife and assaulted Miguel Gonzales-Fajado, 36, also of Bend. Both men were in Cornelius with their families, attending a party at a friend’s house, Stimler said.

Puac-Damaso fled the scene and was found driving east on Highway 26, where he was taken into custody without incident. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he declined medical transport to the hospital, Stimler said.

Puac-Damaso remained at the county jail in Hillsboro on Sunday, held on $25,000 bail and charged with first-degree attempted assault, second- and fourth-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.
