Tree Farm donates 36 logs to Deschutes Children’s Foundation
Thirty-six pine logs were delivered Wednesday, courtesy of Taylor Northwest, to the Deschutes Children’s Foundation’s East Bend Campus, for a special project.
The logs, which were donated by Miller Tree Farm LLC and The Tree Farm LLC from their new development west of Bend, will help transform DCF’s existing playgrounds into expanded and improved Nature Playscapes.
Nature Playscapes are inspired by the natural environment and designed to introduce the children to the outdoor world.
Deschutes Children’s Foundation is in the midst of a capital campaign to fund its Nature Playscape project, as the group is updating its heavily used playgrounds at East Bend Campus, Becky Johnson Community Center, and La Pine Community Campus.
The pine log donation takes the organization one step closer to building these spaces to help create welcoming and comfortable environments for the children and families who access services at Deschutes Children’s Foundation’s community campuses.
“We are so grateful for this unique donation, which provides a perfect example of creative ways the business and nonprofit communities can work together in Central Oregon,” said Kim McNamer, executive director for DCF. “This project is vital to our mission – children who play at our campuses face an astounding number of challenges and risk factors in their home lives. Giving them a safe place to climb, play, jump, build, imagine, dream, run, bike, and grow is incredibly important.”
The donated logs came from the Miller Tree Farm property during the construction of a road into the new The Tree Farm community. The new development is comprised of 50 two-acre homesites off Skyliners Road west of Bend in Deschutes County. The partnership developing the project, The Tree Farm, LLC, anticipates the majority of construction will take place over the summer, with homesites available for sale in the fall.
