High Desert ESD seeks 24 AmeriCorps VISTA associates

KTVZ

Better Together, a community movement to ensure success for Central Oregon children from cradle to career, is currently accepting applications to fill 18 AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate positions, and 6 full time, yearlong VISTA positions.

These positions bring over $160,000 of stipends and scholarships to the Central Oregon region, as well as valuable capacity building resources to non-profit organizations in Crook, Jefferson and Deschutes counties.

The VISTA Summer Associate program offers individuals over the age of 18 years the opportunity to become engaged in the community through a 10-week project during the summer.

The VISTA Summer Associate and Full Time projects not only help meet community needs, they also provide invaluable work and life experience. VISTAs also earn a stipend and an education award upon successful completion of service.

A program of the High Desert Education Service District, Better Together is a collaborative of parents, educators, business leaders, retirees, volunteers, community service providers, mentors and funders working to support and empower children from the time they are born until they enter the workforce.

The VISTA Summer Associate positions serving with Better Together will be engaged in community outreach around a simple, but profoundly compelling call to action: “Find your role, help students excel – we’re Better Together!”

“We are so excited to partner with community organizations in the region to offer these AmeriCorps VISTA positions,” said Katie Condit, executive director for Better Together. “These volunteers will be making a huge impact on Central Oregon youth while gaining invaluable insight and experience into the education and non-profit sectors in the region.”
