A 22-year-old Redmond man was struck by a pickup truck and killed Tuesday night as he walked in the eastbound travel lane of Highway 126 east of Redmond, Oregon State Police said Wednesday.

It was the second fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash in six days in the Bend-Redmond area.

Troopers and other agencies responded around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to the reported vehicle-vs.-pedestrian crash on Highway 126 near milepost 3, just east of Redmond, said OSP Sgt. Kyle Hove.

A preliminary investigation found a 2001 white Ford F250 pickup was heading east when it struck Anthony Marvin Mason, who was in the eastbound lane of travel, Hove said.

Hove said Mason, who was wearing dark clothes, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, he added.

The crash and investigation closed Highway 126 for about three hours, with a detour in place.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Redmond Police Department, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Redmond Fire and Rescue and Oregon Department of Transportation. More information will be released as it becomes available, as this is an ongoing investigation.

The crash comes six days after Ryan Patrick Hunt, 26, was killed trying to cross Bend’s Northeast Third Street, and amid a tragic string of fatal car crashes around Central Oregon in recent weeks..
