A citizen safety complaint brought Prineville police to a parking lot Monday morning, where they found a rental truck carrying four adults and six children, including seven in the cargo section, officers said. A Salem man in the cargo area was arrested on a felony probation violation warrant and failure to register as a sex offender after moving.

Police responded to the traffic complaint about the Budget rental truck around 8:30 a.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Northeast Third Street, but initially were unable to find the truck.

Officer Kathryn Bottoms and Sgt. James Peterson later found it in the Erickson’s Sentry parking lot at 315 Northwest Third Street and contacted the adult driver, Peterson said.

They learned there were also two juveniles in the cab of the truck, and three adults and four other juveniles in the cargo section of the truck, from a total of three families, officers said, heading from New Mexico to visit family in Washington, police said.

One of the passengers in the cargo section of the truck, Gudadalupe Gabino Sanchez-Alden, 21, of Salem, was arrested on a felony Marion County probation violation warrant and a new felony Crook County charge of failing to register as a sex offender for not registering within 10 days of a change of residence. There are no other charges at this time, Peterson said.

The Oregon Department of Human Services was contacted and assisted the remaining nine family members, the sergeant said.
