Volunteers out and about to ‘Make La Pine Shine’

Dumpsters are at the four corners of La Pine for the kickoff of the Make La Pine Shine campaign.

It’s a week-long volunteer opportunity for people to come together to clean their neighborhoods, houses and other areas throughout town. It’s also a way to make members of the community proud of where they live and to get everyone involved in La Pine.

City leaders came up with the idea, to make sure their La Pine looks nice as more people move into the area. One of the head organizers is Mayor Dennis Scott, who was out helping clean Monday with the volunteers.

“The event is to clean up the city,” Scott said. “That was one of the initiatives from Road Development, cleaning up different sites.

“We started a volunteer group that’s been going on for two or three years now,” he added. “It’s giving back to the community. We haven’t done a lot of that. We’ll do it as often as the community wants.”

The Dumpsters were provided by a local company for free. On each of them, there’s a list of materials you can not put into them.

There are four different locations throughout La Pine. You can dump your bags at St. Vincent De Paul, Wickiup Junction Ride and Share, Basset Drive and William Foss Road.

“We’ve got to fix, clean up and do what we have, instead of building out. Let’s take care of what we have. This is part of it,” Scott said.

The event ends Saturday with a picnic for anyone to attend.
