Family Access Network receives $7,500 foundation grant

The Family Access Network (FAN) is the recipient of a $7,500 grant which will be used to help address basic-needs for children and their families who are living in poverty or experiencing homelessness in Deschutes County.

The funds from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation will help provide essential services such as: nutritious food, warm winter clothing, a safe place to sleep, heating assistance, comprehensive healthcare, and more through the FAN advocates in Deschutes County schools.

Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Executive Director Carma Mornarich says, “Strengthening family, furthering education, feeding hungry people are all goals of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation. It’s simple language that when implemented, creates improved lives and better community. For twenty years, that’s what the Foundation has done. It improves lives and betters community.”

The mission of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthen youth and family, provide positive youth development, and add to the quality of life for people in southwestern Oregon. Since 1997, the Foundation has awarded $16,450,927 in grants to non-profit organizations. Awards are made semi-annually, in January and June.

FAN began in January 1993 and currently employs 25 advocates in 52 public school (K-12) and early childhood sites in Deschutes and Crook counties. FAN improves lives by ensuring that children have access to basic-need services. FAN is unique to Central Oregon, utilizing advocates to efficiently reach and connect disadvantaged children and families with basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, and health care.

The Family Access Network is committed to building a healthy community by alleviating the suffering of children in need. In the 2016/17 school year, FAN advocates have improved the lives of over 9,000 children and family members in Central Oregon.
