SE Bend resident helps police catch burglary suspect

A southeast Bend resident who spotted a stranger briefly on his property Monday afternoon drove around to find him, returned to find shoe prints leading to his neighbor’s property and called police, who arrested the burglary suspect in in a car parked in the neighbor’s shed, police said.

Deschutes County 911 dispatchers received a report shortly before 3 p.m. that an unknown male was in a garage in the 61000 block of Skyline View Drive, located east of 27th Street and south of Bear Creek Road, Lt. Clint Burleigh said.

The reporting party had seen the man on their property and looked for him, but was unable to find him. After driving home, the person found shoe prints in adjacent gravel that led to his neighbor’s property, where he saw the man, later identified as Bradley Dean Marshall, 29, of Bend, inside a detached shed on the neighbor’s property. That’s when he called 911, Burleigh said.

Police arrived minutes later and found Marshall in a car parked in the shed, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Burleigh said police found Marshall had entered the residence, then went into the shed, where he took some property — a mailbox key — that was on his person when police showed up. Investigators also said Marshall appeared to be under the influence of controlled substances.

Marshall was taken to St. Charles Bend for a medical evaluation. Burleigh said Marshall will be booked into the county jail after his release from the hospital. He faces charges of second-degree burglary, first- and second-degree criminal trespass, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal mischief.
