Assisted living facility coming to Sisters

The mild weather is good news for some people looking to live in Sisters. Work is underway on a new assisted living facility.

Developer Peter Hoover at Thrivify LLC credits Mother Nature for letting them start site work in the dead of winter. The 7-acre parcel of land next to the post office, between Locust Street and Larch Street, soon will be home to The Lodge in Sisters.

Hoover said Friday it’s a project about a decade in the making. The previous developer could not get the project off the ground and a high demand for construction work made finding a contractor tough.

Now, a long-standing vision is finally being realized.

“We’ll be offering assisted and independent living, and we will be featuring a scenario where people will have the opportunity to live a very active lifestyle, which is reflective of the Sisters community,” Hoover said.

The more than 61,000-square-foot facility will be the biggest of its kind in the area. It will have 28 studios, 28 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom unit. Amenities include a dining room, 24-hour cafe, spa and activity room.

If the weather holds up, the lodge is expected to open this October.

“We are delighted to bring this to the Sisters community, so that residents are going to be able to stay with family,” Hoover said. “They’ll be able to stay with friends. They’ll be able to stay with the connections they have, rather than having to go to other communities.”

The Lodge will will be a boost to the Sisters economy. The Lodge will need to fill about 40 positions, with an expected $800,000 annual payroll.
