Grand jury: Salem officers justified in shooting at man

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County grand jury has found that four Salem police officers were justified in firing shots at a man who crashed a motor home into two police cars last month.

The Marion County District Attorney’s Office says the jury made the decision Monday.

Police say Roy Devoursney wasn’t struck by bullets Jan. 27 but was shocked with a stun gun when he refused officers’ orders.

Police say Corporal Andy Connolly, Sergeant Jim Welsh, Corporal Mark Seyfried and Officer Pence Hodges opened fire as they tried to stop Devoursney, who was recklessly driving the motor home.

Devoursney and Connolly were treated at a hospital that day after police say Devoursney crashed the vehicle into Connolly’s patrol car.

The motor home crashed into another patrol car before it was stopped by spike strips.

The grand jury indicted Devoursney on two counts of attempted aggravated murder, assault and other charges.
