DCSO: Threat to ‘SHS’ a nationwide online viral hoax
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office advised late Wednesday night that a viral post on social media, warning of a school shooting Thursday at “SHS,” is a hoax originating in Ohio and is not a credible threat to area schools.
After 8 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s Office and Bend Police Department began receiving calls from citizens regarding a viral post on social media from a person named “Ray Andres” that indicated there was going to be a school shooting at ‘SHS’ tomorrow, sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said.
“This is a nationwide viral post that originated in the state of Ohio, and it has caused concern for parents, students and staff of every school in America with the acronym ‘SHS,” Bailey said in a news release.
Bailey said the sheriff’s office contacted law enforcement in Ohio and was “told the original post has been tracked to the state of Kentucky and a person of interest is being interviewed.”
“This social media post has been determined to be a hoax and there is no credible threat to our schools in Deschutes County,” the sergeant added.
