Madras man arrested after high-speed chase

A Madras man refused to pull over for speeding near Metolius Saturday afternoon and led Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase into Madras, where he and a passenger seen running from the car were caught after a brief chase, officers said.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a white Chrysler 300 for going 67 mph in 55 mph zone on state Highway 361 just south of Metolius, Sgt. Ryan Grote said.

The driver, later identified as Eduardo Brito Jaimes, 25, of Madras, refused to stop and a pursuit began that hit speeds topping 90 mph, lasting for about 14 minutes.

Grote said the chase was called off as the driver entered Madras, but shortly after, a Madras officer found the car and saw two people run from it.

Several minutes later, deputies and Madras police apprehended both people in southeast Madras after a brief chase on foot.

Jaimes was booked into the Jefferson County Jail and held without bail on a parole violation. He faces new charges of felony attempt to elude police in a vehicle, attempt to elude on foot, reckless driving and reckless endangering.

The female passenger in the car, an 18-year-old Warm Springs woman, was released after the investigation.
