PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A convicted sex offender accused of killing an 89-year-old Portland woman whose body was found in the trunk of his car has been indicted on murder charges.

Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced Wednesday that a grand jury had returned a 23-count indictment against 58-year-old Timothy Mackley. He was arrested during a traffic stop Sept. 25.

The indictment alleges Mackley kidnapped, maimed and sexually abused Marcine Herinck. She was reported missing Sept. 19 from her Portland home. Authorities spent days looking for her.

Mackley is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on multiple charges including aggravated murder, sexual abuse and abuse of a corpse.

Court records show he is a convicted sex offender who was sentenced to prison in 1989 for sex abuse and sodomy in Multnomah County.

His court-appointed lawyer, Kathleen Dunn, did not immediately return a message.
